Conventions of TV drama

Conventions in TV drama consist of characters, plot/storylines, dialogue, setting and themes. Characters stretch from villians to the local shop keaper to newlyweds. For the drama to jell you need a massive contrast of good and evil. As soon as the villian gets involved with the harmless woman, you create a an amazing story line. Plots and stoylines commonly consist of affairs, marriages, murders, scandel and sometimes love. The dialogue reflects on the story line for example when there has been a murder, wherever the people are they will talk about it. The regional accent also adds to the unique dialogue and soaps tend to use slang and have informal dialogue. Dramas often are set in crowded poor areas such as council house estates. Hollyoaks however is more modern and prehaps they live in a posher area and are more in fashion. Last of all is probally the most important. The theme tune. What most of us can recognise the second it starts playing, they are the tunes that define the TV drama or any other programme!
